North American Free Trade Agreement

Established in 1994, NAFTA provides for the gradual reduction of both tariff and non-tariff boundaries over a 10-year period between Canada, Mexico and the United States for those goods that originate within the territory. To take advantage of the preferential treatment provided by the treaty, companies must substantiate that their products meet the complicated NAFTA rules of origin and are accompanied by a proper NAFTA certificate of origin.
